Water-based pigmented furniture color restorer.

Top grain comes from the upper part of the hide. Different tanneries will split the leather at different thicknesses for different strengths.

• Full grain is premium top grain that has the full natural grain intact. Full grain has a highly visible texture including hair follicles. It has not been polished or changed.
  • Pigmented - full grain leather can be pigmented to take on a variety of colors and give it moisture resistance. The texture will still be natural.
  • Aniline is a type of full grain finish that is raw and natural. The grain and texture is intact and visible. Water will be absorbed by the leather. Our color restorer is a coating that may change the 'raw' feel of aniline leather.
• Corrected grain leather is top grain leather that has been buffed or sanded to reduce the grain and is sometimes re-embossed with texture.
  • Pigmented - this creates a smoother and more durable finish that can be any color.
  • Semi-aniline is lightly 'corrected' to remove some of the texture and sometimes re-textured in a press. The leather is slightly pigmented to even-out its coloring and to increase durability while still keeping a natural look.
  • Nubuck is top grain leather that has been finished to a velvety nap.

Split Grain leather comes from the lower layer of the hide. (The part that is left when the Top Grain is removed.) Split grain is finished in three general ways:

• Smoothed and pigmented
• Embossed with texture and pigmented
• Left raw as Suede

Our products work well for finished split leather, but are not recommended for suede. (learn more)

Vinyl

Our products work with vinyl!

Vinyl is a synthetic material made of a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin which is laminated to a textile base. It is characterized by high abrasion resistance, durability, long life, and moisture resistance.

Vinyl or leather match is a type of upholstery that has leather in some areas and vinyl in other areas.

There are many types of 'faux' leather, some are entirely synthetic and some bond synthetics onto a thin layer of split leather.

Faux leathers are not as durable and are sometimes even sold as 'genuine' leather because they do contain some real leather.

Don't be fooled, these are inferior products and will not last, they are also very difficult if not impossible to repair and restore. Restorations won't last long and will likely fail again.

While some customers still experiment with our colors and repair supplies on faux leather, we don't recommend, support or guarantee our products on faux, PU, bonded, or bicast leather.  (Learn more)

Note: sometimes PVC Vinyl is referred to as a faux leather. Vinyl is the only synthetic material that our products will work on and are highly recommended for. We support and guarantee our products on Vinyl.
