Our water-based finishes work on:

absorbent aniline and semi-aniline leather,
non-absorbent full-grain or top-grain leather,
and vinyl upholstery.

Do not use on fabric, suede, nubuck, bonded or faux leather.

Our finishes won’t sun fade or backstain like leather dyes. They don't feel plasticky, flake or peel like spray paints.

Changing color requires poses more maintenance than simply restoring to original. The following are not good candidates and will require touch-up:

changing from red / dark to white / pale;
worn, cracking, scaly or thinning leather;
furniture with lots of wrinkles, folds, deep creases (and therefore stress);
pieces that are heavily used or harshly cleaned (kids, dogs, chemicals);
car or boat upholstery;
bonded, faux or polyurethane (PU) ‘leather’ which repel all finishes (including their own).

Thorough cleaning and stress testing the color are critical! Add 1/2 teaspoon cross-linker per every 2 oz color to improve adhesion and durability. Adding 1 part Satin Sealer to 4 parts color is also recommended to seal bright colors.

How to match a color?

How much do I need?

Colors and clear finishes get the same coverage per bottle. Usually 2-3 coats of color are needed where only one coat of clear finish is needed (so buy half as much of it).

A little goes a long way! These estimates can vary based upon quality and condition of material.

4 oz. covers ~ 30 – 40 square feet
8 oz. covers ~ 60 – 80 square feet
16 oz. covers ~ 120 – 160 square feet

A new life to my Pottery Barn Recliner!

The detailed instructions found online were perfect. I used a soft brush to apply the paint and sealer. Because I felt like I could see brush marks I went over the paint using a stippling process to give it more of a mottled look and not so smooth. I am extremely happy with the results and have enough product left over to do a second recliner in my Florida home.

Brillant!

few weeks ago during my garage sale I was literally trying to give away our beat up leather furniture. After two decades of abuse from several pets and normal life it pained me to think I had to give in and throw it in the landfill. My first project with Rub'nRestore products. Sofa bed was thoroughly vacuumed, cleaned and prepared as per your instructions and videos with your products and 99% alcohol. As in any project, through prep = excellent results. This colour proved to be most suitable for the original shade of blue. I did build up the colour with three light coats. Two coats was OK. Another Rub’nRestore Success

I’ve just completed my third project and once again I’m thrilled with the result. I snagged a free leather couch off Marketplace. This one was riskier because I found out it was bonded leather after the fact. The previous finish was severely faded in a few areas, but the integrity was good overall.

Miracle Product!

We have two West Elm leather chairs less than three years old that faded dramatically from their original dark blue. Sadly we thought we might have to replace them before I discovered Rub N Restore. I can't believe the amazing transformation! I now want to refresh all my leather furniture. I especially liked how the Clear Prep + Finish created such a soft even look. Super happy :)

Perfect match!

I ordered midnight blue for my loveseat which had skuffs here and there. It went on easy and was a perfect match. Dried fast and didn't rub off.

I am finally happy with my leather sectional! It was originally brown and my floors are brown so it just all blended together! When I saw your product I had some hope! I wasn’t sure I could do it but your videos gave me courage! So I now have a navy blue sectional that stands out in the room! It is absolutely beautiful and I get compliments all the time!! Couch and chair

We had custom color to match our original color. We received everything we needed, mixed all ingredients and applied as directed. Great outcome! Our 20 yr old furniture looks new. It took about an hour to do both pieces. Used 3 coats on the major wear areas.

It worked wonderful. My 40+ year old precious blue leather chairs look like new (except for a some well earned creases). We were thinking of giving them to Goodwill or some other Charity but found your product. So glad we did. You both were so very helpful too! Love this products, opens up a whole other world of refurbishing leather furniture!

My daughter found this product and we couldn't be happier. This was easy to use, and the results speak for themselves. We did find that if we used the final coat product without color in it, we had less rub off, which several people were concerned about. It took a couple of weekends from start to finish, including sanding and restaining the base. But Rub 'N Restore was so user friendly, already looking for new projects to use it on.

Too soon to tell

At this point, my sense is that the color, midnight blue, is not as dark as the sample that was sent. Also, It's been about 8 days since application and I can still rub off some color with a terry cloth rag if I apply only a moderate amount of pressure. I'll give it more time (luckily I tested it in an inconspicuous location) but I'm kind of discouraged at this point. The chair I'm hoping to "treat" is in good shape and made of high quality leather. I'm trying to restore the original color (dark blue) which has faded a bit more than I'd like.

Blue is made with organic (not mineral) pigments and can sometimes be a little fussier. Dry buff the surface with a rag, as you have, until unstable pigment stops transferring. Pre-treating the rag (and any clothing) with washing soda or borax should remove the pigment after laundering. If deemed necessary, our Clear Prep+Finish or the special order Satin Sealer over the top can add an additional layer of protection.

I'm completely blown away by the finished project! I used "Midnight Blue" on my sun-warped "blue" leather chairs and think they actually look better than when I originally bought them. I used roughly three coats of the color and then finished with one coat of the Clear+Prep and Finish Conditioner. Extremely happy with this product and the results.

Midnight Blue...Ohhh, ohhh, ohhh...

The color turned out beautiful! I learned the importance of the Clear Prep and Finish and proper preparation. Order plenty of Clear Prep and Finish! I should have sanded some of the leather prior but I honestly didn't know it was scaly until I began coloring it. It took about 7 or 8 coats alternated with Prep and Seal to cover the back of the couch properly but the products are amazing. I can't believe it's my 22 year old furniture that has moved 13 times and had been in storage for 2 years prior to moving to Hawaii where it gets sun exposure in our living room. I am ever grateful and look forward to finishing up the love seat next week.

This stuff is as amazing as the videos show! 23 years ago we had put a lot of money into Ethan Allen furniture: solid cherry with dark blue leather cushions for the entire living room. It was beautiful. But after 20 years of cats drooling and bleeding on the ottoman, and sunlight fading the rest of the furniture to an irregular light blue, with a few cat drool spots, it looked beyond repair. We didn't want to sink $$$ into replacement of all of the cushions. After Rub N Restore, it looks beautiful again. A miracle!!!

Easy to use. I used a spray gun from Harbor Freight $13.00 It used 1.75 tip at 30 Pound pressure. I sprayed the front seats of a Porsche Boxter. Gave it 4-5 coats where I repaired damage as per videos on youtube and then went over the front seats 3-4 times light coats follow up with an Hair dryer. They came out looking like new.They looked terrible before with splits and scuffing all over. I called and spoke to Souse and she was a great help. Sent samples and sent out the product same day I called. I would really use these again If I could give 10 * I would Customer Service and the Product is just the Best.

I used Rub n Restore on two projects. Both turned out great. One was an older brown couch and recliner that was really looking worn, scratched and stained. I had to experiment with the color but it turned out great.

The other was a used tan sectional I bought and refinished in Midnight Blue. I do have to touch it up occasionally but it looks great. You'd never know it was tan before.

I just finished my chair project using rubnrestore in midnight blue.

The chair was far from perfect when purchased from a garage sale, so, it still has a couple of dents in the cushion and arms where something had been stored. Darn!

I used the clear finish after 48 hours of curing the dye. It is the frosting on the cake! I loved working with this product.
