Tobacco Vinyl & Leather Finish
Tobacco is a warm medium brown. It is more golden than Walnut but not as red as Cinnamon.
Use our water-based finishes to restore and condition:
- absorbent aniline and semi-aniline leather,
- non-absorbent full-grain or top-grain leather,
- and vinyl upholstery.
Our finishes wonโt sunfade or backstain like leather dyes. They don't feel plasticky, flake or peel like spray paints.
Do not use on fabric, suede, nubuck, bonded or faux leather.
Store in a temperate, dark place away from children.

Changing color is best suited to absorbent leather.
If the material repels water and will be heavily used, consider adding 1 part special order Satin Sealer to 4 parts color to improve durability. Thorough cleaning and stress testing the color are critical!
The following are not good candidates and will require touch-up:
- changing from red / dark to white / pale;
- worn, cracking, scaly or thinning leather;
- furniture with lots of wrinkles, folds, deep creases (and therefore stress);
- pieces that are heavily used or harshly cleaned (kids, dogs, chemicals);
- car or boat upholstery (for these we suggest a heavier urethane coating);
- bonded, faux or polyurethane (PU) โleatherโ which repel all finishes (including their own).
Here's what wear looks like on non-absorbent leather or vinyl:
You can order handmade swatches of leather or vinyl refinished with our colors to see how they compare.
Or send us a sample. For a $120 fee, we will formulate a unique color and keep it on file. 8 oz. is the order minimum and a separate cost. There's a re-mix fee if you ever need more.
Samples should be at least 2" x 3" in size and can be:
- Original leather or vinyl (found underneath cushions or pull some staples and trim from the frame);
- Cushion case (please indicate which area you want matched with a piece of painters tape);
- Headrest, fuse panel cover, or component from a vehicle;
- Paint chip from a hardware store (beware, the paint chip may not actually match the material).

Buy it if:
- the leather is absorbent (use it as a primer) or

Do not use Clear Prep+Finish as a topcoat on vinyl boats!

Skeptical we decided to give Rub and Restore a try. Changing the colour a butterscotch to Tobacco. WOW! It looks like a whole new couch.
Total time was about 8 hours of 2 days. We applied with a rag and then immediately stippled\blotted some off with another rag. This gave it a more lived in look. But work fast as this drys in a couple of minutes. Best to stick to smaller areas or have one person applying and one person removing. We did a total of 4 coats.
Highly recommend getting a drop cloth and covering a table to work on the cushions. That really saves your back.
I would say that 4 to 1 still gave it quite a glossy finish but overall we could not be happier with how it turned out! Would definitely recommend.
We HIGHLY recommend it
I purchased a 16oz bottle of Tobacco and a 16 oz bottle of sealer. 3 coats of color, followed by 2 layers of color mixed with sealer on the sponge. I still have color left over for minor repairs and plenty of sealer. I could have purchased a smaller sealer, but wanted to use it on a couple of other pieces in my home that just need a refresher. This stuff is so easy to use and worth every penny!
