Mahogany Vinyl & Leather Finish
Mahogany is our darkest brown with a warm red undertone.
Our water-based finishes work on:
- absorbent aniline and semi-aniline leather,
- non-absorbent full-grain or top-grain leather,
- and vinyl upholstery.
Do not use on fabric, suede, nubuck, bonded or faux leather.
Our finishes wonāt sun fade or backstain like leather dyes. They don't feel plasticky, flake or peel like spray paints.

Changing color requires poses more maintenance than simply restoring to original. The following are not good candidates and will require touch-up:
- changing from red / dark to white / pale;
- worn, cracking, scaly or thinning leather;
- furniture with lots of wrinkles, folds, deep creases (and therefore stress);
- pieces that are heavily used or harshly cleaned (kids, dogs, chemicals);
- car or boat upholstery;
- bonded, faux or polyurethane (PU) āleatherā which repel all finishes (including their own).
Thorough cleaning and stress testing the color are critical! Add 1/2 teaspoon cross-linker per every 2 oz color to improve adhesion and durability. Adding 1 part Satin Sealer to 4 parts color is also recommended to seal bright colors.
Use our Project Planner to assess your needs and get tailored instructions.
Order swatches to see how our colors compare. Or send a sample for free color testing and, if necessary, customization.
Colors and clear finishes get the same coverage per bottle. Usually 2-3 coats of color are needed where only one coat of clear finish is needed (so buy half as much of it).
A little goes a long way! These estimates can vary based upon quality and condition of material.
- 2 oz. covers ~ 15 ā 20 square feet
- 4 oz. covers ~ 30 ā 40 square feet
- 8 oz. covers ~ 60 ā 80 square feet
- 16 oz. covers ~ 120 ā 160 square feet
Use our Project Planner to calculate how much you need and get tailored instructions.
Butterscotch, Cherrywood, Brick, Wine, Red Chili, Plum, Midnight Blue, Storm Blue, and Lagoon need a clear topcoat.
- Satin Sealer can be used on both leather and vinyl and dries low luster, similar to the color.
- Clear Prep+Finish can only be used on leather and dries glossy.

The bad: even after being allowed to cure for a full two weeks, the color starts to rub off in high wear areas after a month or so. The attached photos are about 6 weeks after product application.
Every month or two I have to go re-touch up my couch to get it looking nice again. I've gone through an entire 8oz. bottle in a little under 8 months.
If the color were more permanent, this product would get a perfect 5 stars from me. As it stands, it's about 2.5.
UPDATE: After my previous review, Lesandre reached out to me to discuss my project and suggest ways I might improve my results. She took a great deal of time and care suggesting various solutions and ideas. She also kindly offered a few free swatches and product samples to experiment with and see what worked best for me.
I ended up going with a somewhat lighter color which is closer to the base color, so that any wear is less immediately noticeable. That combined with the Satin Sealer product has made the finish on my couch MUCH more durable. Where before the product would only last for a couple weeks before needing a touchup, it's now a couple months, and requires far less product. Considering there are 2 little kids and 3 large dogs abusing it daily, I'd say those results are more than acceptable.I can't imagine that any product is going to perform much better, given the conditions we're inflicting on it.
I really appreciate your taking the time. Based on Lesandre's absolutely stellar support, combined with the very noticeable improvement in my results, I'd give the product 5 stars. I absolutely recommend it, and will be purchasing again in the future.
I was totally wrong to be skeptical and the product and process were amazing. The personal evaluation was quick and gave me the exact information on how to restore my couch. Between the written instructions and the videos the product was as easy to use as demonstrated. With no experience it was easy to achieve professionaly results. The finished result looks like new and all the worn sections are completely gone. I can't believe I lived with a worn couch for as long as I did when fixing it was so easy.
This stain may seem a bit expensive at first, but it's worth every penny!
All of my friends and family are so shocked at how good it looks!
Amazing transformation š
love it.
I can't say enough positive about their product and customer service!!!
I tried several different products to repair our couch and nothing worked until I found Rubān Restore. Excellent coverage that lasts!
I'm kicking myself for not taking before and after pictures. I like to see how things turn out. Sorry.
Got some color swatches which they recommend. Found the mahogany color and it was perfect.
We think it turned out really well. We paid $4,000 for this sectional brand new and the surface broke down soon after we bought it and it became a mess. We are very happy with the ānewā sectional that we have again! Your product is amazing!
Your products rock! My family is so impressed and so am I. I have restored 4 large pieces of furniture with RubnRestore! All look fantastic.
Actually, I did NOT use the Clear Prep + Finish!Ā In pre-experimenting, I noticed that I needed the full strength Dye to get to get the coverage, as you mentioned might happen in your published directions. Ā I had pre-cleaned with alcohol and 409. Ā As it turns-out, the Dye by itself dried with the same sheen as the existing couch sheen!!!Ā I actually only really used two coats.
In trying to repair the worn areas before I found Rub-n-Restore, I went to half a dozen furniture stores in Bakersfield, asking if they carried a dye type repair product.Ā In every case, I was looked at like I had just landed here from another planet; I was astonished!!!Ā I did find one upholstery repair shop that said, if I brought it to him, he could "paint" it for $300!!! Ā I quickly left and came home started Googling!!Ā The reason I spent so much time looking here, is that I wanted someone to talk to face-to-face and maybe see some actual examples of re-dying before somewhat going with blind hope on Google!!!Ā I was most impressed by your website and so here we are, with you with a very happy customer!!!Ā You have an excellent website!!!
You now absolutely have a happy customer in Bakersfield, California!!!

I watched all the videos and knew it would be easy and would look really good.
I just still can't believe it really worked and really looks like a brand new couch!!
I will buy this product again for sure!!
Thank you!
I used rubber gloves and a sponge (purchased the one recommended in brochure that came with paint). Applied paint to sponge (comes out of bottle like a water, not to thick). Tried using straight lines across hot tub cover the 1st & 2nd thin layers applied. 3rd and 4th layers applied, I used a circular motion.
The product was everything it says it is. Love the color now :))
After some water damage to one of our leather couch cushions I was ready to get rid of the set. Then I found Rub 'n Restore.. I was super skeptical, but thought it was worth a shot. OH MY GOSH it was so easy and looks great! AND it only took about a half hour (most of that was waiting to be sure it was dry between layers). A huge shout-out to Rub ān Restore, Inc. for walking me through this process, helping select the right colors (a mixture of Mahogany and Walnut) and convincing me I could do this! Seriously amazing! I'm so thrilled! Not bad for a Monday morning!
Boy, I am sold! I was surprised at how easy your products really are to use. Before I made my purchase, I watched your how-to videos, which gave me confidence the Rub āN Restore products were what I needed for my furniture. I was a little worried the Mahogany Dye was going to have to much red in it, but once it dried it was almost a perfect match. I put Clear Prep Finish on and it blended beautifully. My furniture almost looks like new. Thank you for bringing us products and giving us instructions that are easy enough for the non talented, like myself, to use.
Really did restore my leather chairs.
I'm very pleased. This cover is going to easily last at least another couple of years and that's a heck of a lot better than spending upwards of $500 or $600 to get a new one.
Thank you again and again for all your help with this and for such a great product. I'm a happy camper!
I would definitely recommend this product. Our family and friends have been amazed.
