I spent time on Google and Amazon. I read reviews of RubnRestore products on the later, then went to the R'nR website to learn more about their products...watch tutorials...and make my purchase.
When I learned that vinyl can be tricky to re-color, I knew it would be worth it to "Consult a Pro". And it was absolutely the right decision. Lesandre was extremely helpful. She sent samples of the colors I was thinking about (which I returned), filled a shopping cart on the website with the products she recommended for my project, included clear instructions, and I was ready to go.
I think it took between 8 to 10 hours over several days to clean with alcohol, re-clean with Flite, patch a deep hole, fill smaller holes/splits, paint, dry, and re-paint the chair. But it was all a straightforward process and I am so pleased with the finished chair!!! Now I hope to find more chairs to restore for customer seating.
I knew from Lesandre and my research that changing the color of vinyl is tricky. But the new surface has held up really well to several months of general use, no sign of scuffing from my constant getting up and down or shifting my weight in it. However, the chair's home at my desk is tight fit and the armrests have been scuffed and scraped a bit where they regularly hit the edge of my keyboard desk. But that's my problem/fault, not the Rug'nRestore products's fault. When the scuffs get noticeable from a few feet away, I'll simply re-touch the sites that show wear-and-tear. (Now I'm trying to decide if I want to put the time into refinishing the chrome legs?)
Thank you so much Rub'nRestore! I love that a great old chair could be restored rather than hidden away or thrown away.
I will say, I was stingy with how much I was using for each cleaning. I found myself using the same amount when all was said and done and less work scrubbing when using fair amount.
