So, after looking at various products to restore a sofa and love seat, Rub’n Restore was the choice. The phone support prior to placing the order was informative and convincing. The leather that was being restored was of a high grade, with a waxed finish, walnut color. I was skeptical about applying any dye, but the pieces were so faded I had nothing to lose. The product was shipped promptly, and included instruction, plastic gloves and stirrers. I first mixed 1 teaspoon of walnut colorant with 1 teaspoon of glaze (1:1 ratio). This was then applied to a hidden, test area of the sofa. After a few tries with various ratios and application methods, a near perfect match was achieved using a sponge as the applicator. The entire process was not fast however, as the two pieces took about 10 hours in total to fully complete. That included some second applications to better blend some areas that were not to my liking. The dying process was completed with application of a coat of glaze. The results were excellent.

The project was completed by installing fabric cushion wrap, purchased at a craft store, around the existing foam inserts. This restored some of the firmness the cushions had lost, and removed many stretch wrinkles the leather received over 15 years. I done this step after the dying, but should have done it before hand. Doing it before hand will smooth the wrinkles and make dye application easier. The project was straight forward, requires no experience. The finish product did not looked “painted”, but very natural.

Our furniture was looked pretty sad with a lot of areas faded. Trying this product was the last chance at getting it fixed. We were planning on shopping for new furniture if it didn't work. Well, the furniture looks brand new after using the product. We couldn't believe it but it worked so well !!! As a matter of fact, we like the new color much better than the original color (walnut vinyland leather)!!! Thank you for a wonderful product. Amazing!!!

It just works! I used the Walnut Vinyl & Leather Dye to recolor a area on my couch. We followed the instructed and it worked perfectly. Two weeks later it is still looking great.

I bought this product in April 2018 and refinished a red leather wing-back chair to the walnut color. I found the "dye" acts more like paint. I used 8-10 coats to get the finish I wanted. As we've used the chair, the red color shows through a little which makes it look a little more worn-in and we actually like the effect better BUT if you accidentally scrape the chair (like I did with the corner of a cardboard box) the old red color totally shows through. Which is why I'm rating this as a 3 because it really doesn't seem to function like I would expect a dye to. Also, it was fairly labor intensive to have to do so many layers of the dye. The...More

Then there was the recommendation to use a fine steel wool to get the dye off of the brass buttons...that did not work well. If I wasn't really, really careful I would scrape off the dye on the leather surrounding the buttons. I eventually just gave up and left the brass buttons covered with dye. It doesn't look great but it doesn't look horrible.

I just wanted to thank you for your product. I changed two couches from beige to walnut. The couches look much better in the room now, because I painted the walls a lighter color and the couches provide a nice contrast. I LOVED that the product is water-based and that the cleanup was so easy.

I really love my finished project, and my friends thought I had my couch professionally recovered. I couldn't have done this project without the help of Rub n Restore. I did my homework and researched many options. They are a little hidden secret!

I was concerned when I first started applying the product, as it was streaky. My daughter was helping me and told me to wait until we applied more coats before panicking. The finished product looks "Wonderful". I am amazed at the results- completely covered the worn places and the many deep dog scratches. (we did fill the scratches with the filler) I spoke with the owner twice on the phone and she answered all of my questions and was just a very nice person to deal with. Thank you for a fabulous product that brought back an old sofa, chair & ottoman to near new condition!! Also, the Walnut color looks like Mocha or a lighter colored Her...More

Have no fear and proceed forward. It really does work and it looks amazing!! I have little artistic talent. It is not required. I did my couch and recliner and it was so easy it's laughable! I felt the color was too light but it was the color of the swatch. I just hadn't realized that I wanted something darker. That was my mistake. I will leave it for a few days but I may get a darker color and do it again!!

I used your product on my leather recliner and couch that I was about to throw away because they looked so bad. The leather was intact and the mechanisms worked fine. They are 10 years old. I tried everything and none worked. Then I found Rub and Restore. All I can say is wow!!! I did learn a few things though. The recliner took 14 coats. They were very light and I used the Prep and Finish after every four coats. The chair and couch look like new. It has been a month and they just look better every day. The chairstarted a little shiny so I toned it down. I can't say enough about your product. It is great. One suggestion; the stir stick is crap...More

I had a large stainless steal wingnut on the side table I took off something, so I dropped that into the dye bottle and slowly swirled the bottle. Worked great. Try it! Beats the stir stick. Don't shake just swirl the bottle.”

The product was very good and did a great job of covering the old leather even though the leather was very rough and flaking in spots. Unfortunately, the color was lighter than I expected based on the analysis done to match the leather swatch I sent the company.
