$16.00$70.00

Cognac is a rich saddle or butterscotch color. It is similar to our Mocha but more golden. It is darker than Honey and lighter than Tobacco or Walnut.

Clear

Use our conditioning colors to restore:

  • absorbent aniline and semi-aniline leather
  • non-absorbent full-grain leather
  • and vinyl upholstery.

Our finishes won’t sunfade or backstain like leather dyes. They won’t alter the feel, flake or peel like spray paints. Each bottle comes with gloves and stir stick. Sponge sold separately.

Do not use on fabric, suede, nubuck or faux (bonded) leather.

Amazing product! It has delayed the inevitable for an additional 4 years on our 22 year old leather sofa and chairs. My wife wasn't happy when I did the first repair because she wanted new furniture but she even said, the furniture looks so much better. I took a lot of jokes from my kids about painting the furniture but none of the color rubs off on your clothes like everyone said it would. It still looks great but the leather has thinned to a point that I couldn't keep up with the dogs nails so we just ordered a new leather couch and chairs. Unfortunately it won't be delivered for another 4 or 5 months so I'm ordering one more time this miracle product. I told my wife we might be able to sell the furniture for more than we paid for it when I get done with my last restoration. The team at RubNRestore are also very helpful with color selection and tips and trick to restore your furniture. Placing my order now :)

I’m am so impressed with this product. I received it yesterday and couldn’t wait to apply it to my sofa. I tried everything to hide the spot and nothing worked out until I found this product, I didn’t do the whole sofa because I only ordered the 2oz to cover a stain I messed up. I then applied it to both arms of my sofa. I’m loving this two tone look. This product is amazing

I am a researcher so I looked into all the ways to diy a leather couch restore. Im so glad I chose this product. It was truly “easy” (definitely time and elbow grease but so straight forward) and I am still amazed at the results! I have a brand new couch! And I’m thrilled to have this in standby for the inevitable kid touch ups.

This stuff is just amazing! When moving into my first home, I was given some old, dark purple leather couches. Of course I took them (they were free!), but I honestly thought they were ugly. I did a little research and found this product from Rub and Restore. I was nervous to order because of the price and because I had no idea how the couches would turn out. Well, they turned out BEAUTIFUL! It took 4 coats on each coat (an hour a coat/couch). The couches are a pretty brown (a much more modern look). There were some scratches on the seats of one couch, and the paint completely covered them up! I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who wants to change up the look of their leather couches!
After: Cognac is a beautiful color. The chair looks brand new and. I put on three coats and it has worn very well so far.

It does a great job, but I think it was a HUGE mistake to use a sponge. I am an artist and have a lot of experience with paints and painting. The sponge soaked up too much product, dried on the sponge, and no matter how quickly I worked it just was bad. I even had a water spray bottle to mist it but I wasted a great deal of product, which should have been on my chair instead of my sponge. With that said, I will say the paint is a highly pigmented water base paint. When I purchased this, my impression was to RUB it on, like you would with shoe polish. I think it is much better to use a foam brush, keep several on hand because it will dry on it no matter how fast you work, although the spray bottle helped. I felt it would have turned out better if I had originally applied it like a thin paint, done small areas at a time, soak the foam brush every 15 minutes, and do several thin layers. You don't need to rub this on, you need to paint it on. I have severe carpal tunnel, so if you have this, or arthritis, then you best work in small batches with a foam brush. I even used an actual paint brush to paint around the brass tacs. It is a great product, but treat it like a paint, rather than like a leather polish that you rub into leather.

I cannot believe the results! I am so pleased. This is exactly what I hoped the project would turn out to look like. It was a long day because there were three pieces but so worth it! I mixed the cognac, tobacco and a little rust and diluted with the clear finish as you suggested. It took two coats and sometimes three in the darkest areas.  I watched the video and used the mottling technique to spread the color. It dried quickly and we are letting it cure before sitting on it. We paid $700 for all three pieces used. It cost less than $200 for the color. I highly recommend this product!

Everyone told me I couldn’t stain leather, but you can! Rub n restore is so easy to use. I’ve never done this before but knew I could. Great help on the phone, in instructions and videos. It took less than 3 hours to transform the chair. The oil stain didn’t fully go away, but it looked so good I didn’t want to fully change the color. We liked the faux finish look.

I used alcohol, 2-3 coats of cognac / Prep n finish glaze with a faux finish sponge (keep it damp!), dry in between coats, and 2 coats of Prep n finish. The only negative is that the leather felt a little dry after finishing the process. The second clear coat helped. All in all, so happy! My emerald green sofa will be my next project! And minimal to no odor!! The color looks great!!

I bought a leather loveseat on Craigslist for $25 that was in good shape except for sun bleaching on the arms and seat cushions and one back cushion that was darker than the rest of the couch. I sent in a sample of the original leather and got a custom blend using cognac which I blended with 2oz rust. Three applications including the last with a blend with the finisher created a semigloss appearance that looks fantastic! I did do an additional application to the dark cushion to even out the tone to match the rest of the loveseat. Excellent product!

I just wanted to submit some photos of our sofa after using your products. I was honestly skeptical the paint would work, but I’m so glad I gave it a try. Not only did it work, our couch looks amazing! I did 3 coats of cognac as a base and then a 1:1 glaze mix of tobacco with clear (the last photo is the true color we ended up with). I bought a Natuzi leather couch on Craigslist for $150 because I have pets and didn't want to spend a fortune on new only to have it thrashed. It was well built but had some discoloration and scratching. A friend suggested I recondition it and I found rub & retire videos on YouTube. Seemed too good to be true but I ordered it. Got my shipment in a few days, and after a few hours it was like I had a brand new couch. It's absolutely foolproof and felt like magic. It is the single most rewarding diy project I ever have done. I'll never buy new leather again.

Amazing products and great results! Colors used 2:1 ratio Cognac:Cherrywood and 1:1 Clear:Cognac. Thanks to covid19 my indirect dislike for our very aged leather sofa amplified and instead of spending an exorbitant amount on a brand new leather sofa I came across your products and couldn’t be happier! The couch was inherited from my boyfriends mother and he was very skeptical and initially did not want me to try to tackle this project knowing the couch was pretty far gone and more concerned he would have to get us a new couch if my attempt at fixing it would make it worse. So one day I waited until he left for work and I went to work on our sofa. I was able to ratio the colors to match perfectly just by looking through your reviews with photos and learned how to patch, correct and color with your instructional videos. It took me two days with my secret project because of the repairs that needed to be made and time between to dry with the leather filler and patches but thanks to a few well placed decorative pillows and blankets went unnoticed until my project was complete. I only needed to use the color on the bottom cushions and a few other areas like the arm rest which needed to be repaired. The best part is my boyfriend still can’t tell which cushions I didn’t touch! And I have enough color left over for my next secret project - his leather recliner to match our “new” gorgeous leather sofa. Thanks to your products and instructional videos you’ve saved our sofa, our bank account and made my boyfriend a believer!

Took a chance buying some used, high end magenta swivel chairs based on your videos. Super happy—thank you!!

I did experience a bit of anxiety because I initially wiped off parts of prior coats each time I tried to add another. I started to worry i didn’t clean it enough, etc (but it’s been a month or so of heavy use and it’s wearing great so ?‍♀️?). It was completely dry so wasn’t that. In retrospect I think maybe my sponge was too wet—and then not wet enough, LOL. Anyway i switched to pouncing the sponge which worked great AND I found that allowed me to add a bit of... I dunno, subtle variegation or dimension to the color/finish. Happy accident since I think it looks better than having it just one completely even color anyway.

Here are some photos to show you that Rub 'n Restore works beautifully in New Zealand as well as in the USA! We are very happy with the results.

We used a 16oz and 8oz of cognac dye plus an 8oz of clear prep. We did 5 coats of dye, then a 50/50 with clear prep. It was still shinier than the original so we did a 6th coat of dye only to get the satin effect. There is still plenty of dye and clear prep left for any repairs in the future. The 20 year old dark green leather looks ok in photos but was rather tired close up as we brought up 3 kids who jumped all over it for years on end! It was also too dark for our current home decor. The Cognac looks fabulous and fits very well with our decor.

Many thanks for your helpful suggestions as well as the excellent product.

My favorite comfy chair is allowed back in the living room after years of being banished to the basement thanks to Rubnrestore Cognac treatment!! Your leather "tonic" is amazing!

After going through your website information and videos I was ready to try it and I am SO impressed!

I ordered the desired color, which arrived SO quickly; prepared the chair, as directed; then I chose to pretreat with the Prep & Finish, which turned out to be REALLY helpful as the now pretty 'raw' leather didnt absorb the dye as quickly and I could 'move' it around easier. Finally I added some Prep&Finish to my dye to give the chair more of a satin finish and Voile!!   I am SO pleased with how easy the whole process was--took about 4hrs start to finish! And beyond thrilled with the finished product!!! THANK YOU LADIES!!

I’m somewhat cheap when it comes to furniture. With a baby and cat (and let be real, I’m really messy), I know our furniture will get a lot of wear and tear, so I take FREE furniture whenever I can. We were given a chair and loveseat in a red leather. It’s not my style, so I decided to change it! YALL. I used  Rub ‘n Restore, Inc.  Leather Dye and changed it to a beautiful Cognac color. I dyed both pieces of furniture THIS AFTERNOON. It’s so easy and pretty much foolproof. I still need to buff and shine the nail heads, but c’mon, the difference is crazy.

I just wanted to send you some pics of the finished project. I love it! Thanks for all your help. I used your repair stuff to repair the cushion and it worked great. And used the cognac making a 50 50 glaze with tha clear and wiping a lot of it off after it was somewhat dry to get a distressed look.

“I restored the ottoman first as a test and, although it’s beautiful, the couch has more of a brown tone and when the ottoman was next to the couch, the orange tones in the cognac really stood out, so I sent a sample for a custom color. The pictures I sent of the ottoman are before I put the custom color over the cognac.”

“I received your products today and couldn't wait to get started. I was only able to do the seat cushions and ottoman tonight, but those are what needed the most work. I am thrilled! They look so good! The cognac color worked perfectly. I love it. And it was so easy! I'm going to do the chairs tomorrow to get the color to match the cushions and ottoman. Thank you so much!”

“I used the cognac as a base with a small amount of walnut to darken it and then tinted that with a little organic yellow from ADV Leather. I then glazed the couch with that color first. I then used a slightly darker version (more walnut) to put a second print coat on top. I used a mixture of the clear and the dull topcoat from ADV Leather to create the matte glaze. To deal with the streakiness of the Adv product, I would apply the colorant with the sponge and then go over that tapping with a damp wax application sponge (the ones covered in terry cloth) to smooth the application. Buffing with a polishing cloth also helped. I then top coated the couches with a mixture of 60/40 clear/dull and once dried for a day buffed this to get the somewhat satin appearance. I am stoked! Having used the ADV color line to tint, I am very glad to have used your line to do the meat of the work. Looks really good to me. We will see how it holds up, but I think it should be good to go for awhile! Oh, I also added feet that I stained later on. No other improvements were made.”
