Product Details

Use our water-based finishes to restore and condition:

absorbent aniline and semi-aniline leather,
non-absorbent full-grain or top-grain leather,
and vinyl upholstery.

Our finishes won’t sunfade or backstain like leather dyes. They don't feel plasticky, flake or peel like spray paints.

Do not use on fabric, suede, nubuck, bonded or faux leather.

Store in a temperate, dark place away from children.

Changing color is best suited to absorbent leather.

If the material repels water and will be heavily used, consider adding 1 part special order Satin Sealer to 4 parts color to improve durability. Thorough cleaning and stress testing the color are critical!

The following are not good candidates and will require touch-up:

changing from red / dark to white / pale;
worn, cracking, scaly or thinning leather;
furniture with lots of wrinkles, folds, deep creases (and therefore stress);
pieces that are heavily used or harshly cleaned (kids, dogs, chemicals);
car or boat upholstery (for these we suggest a heavier urethane coating);
bonded, faux or polyurethane (PU) ‘leather’ which repel all finishes (including their own).

Here's what wear looks like on non-absorbent leather or vinyl:

Our finishes wear naturally, resulting in a distressed look.

Deeper lines or creases receive more stress.

Easy rub-off indicates inadequate cleaning.

The color may flake if applied too thickly and allowed to pool in the grain.

This is easily corrected by thinning the color with alcohol and reapplying.

Answer these three questions to determine what clear finish, if any, is needed for leather:

Do unworn areas absorb water?

Yes

Are you applying a primary or secondary color (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple)?

What kind of luster do you want?

Matte

Mix 1 to 2 parts Clear Prep+Finish™ + 1 part color for the first coat. Use one coat of Satin Sealer for a final topcoat.

Use equal parts color and Clear Prep+Finish™ from start to finish. If it dries too shiny, reduce the amount of clear in the mix for your final coat. Conversely, if more shine is desired, add more clear to the mix or use alone as a topcoat.

Apply a thin coat of Clear Prep+Finish™ and disperse quickly so it does not dry too shiny. You can also try equal parts color and clear.

Apply Clear Prep+Finish™ as a final topcoat.

The color will dry matte and does not need an additional sealer.

Mix 4 parts color with 1 part Clear Prep+Finish™ and use from start to finish (or alone as a final topcoat).

Mix equal parts color with 1 part Clear Prep+Finish™ and use as a final topcoat.

Use Clear Prep+Finish™ as a final topcoat.

There are few products that really work like you hope they do, but this one does! I had a light colored chair that had dark worn spots. I was skeptical that I would get them covered. I followed the directions and the chair looks like new! I was so happy and impressed and I can’t say enough good about this product.

I used this product to cover dark spots on the upholstery of my pontoon boat. I applied to the back of the seats on true cushions on the top of the pop up changing room. The product worked beautifully!! Covered the dark spots (loss of pigment) perfectly and the color was a good match. I couldn’t be happier with this product!!!

I wasn't that impressed with the correction of color and wear on my SUV seats that are leather

Because our colors are not standardized for the hundreds of shades used across the many makes, models, and generations of auto interiors, we recommend customization. If the color didn't hide the damage, then it probably needs some minor resurfacing with filler.

Really didn’t see a lot of difference. Filled in cracks temporarily.

There's only so much a new finish can do. Cracks need to be repaired with filler putty. This article has more info.

Presto! Like new again.

I saw this product on u-tube and purchased to see if I could refresh my six year old leather recliner. The headrest was wearing from the heat and oils from my head. I washed the leather with soap and water and then applied the leather dye and presto, I have a beautiful chair once again. I highly recommend this product. I have a darker recliner and I will be purchasing this product for my next project.

Restored old boat seats

My boat seats were so worn and faded I did not need to do any prep work to support adhesion of the product. 30 minutes and three coats later and the seats look like new.

Recliner and Loveseat

I used Rub and Restore to turn a recliner and loveseat from ivory to beige. It did take several hours and about 5 thin coats. I used a paint brush to apply the product into the tufting and folds. For some reason the product seemed to foam with the sponge, I found that a damp rag worked better for application. I do think the new finish feels smooth and stable.

Amazing paint!!

Made my sofa look brand new. I have dogs and they destroy my sofa. Now i have extra paint to do touch ups just before we have company. I’m so glad i found this because i tried other leather pains and they didn’t last more than a day. It’s been a week of heavy use and it looks perfect! Make sure to use the sealant when you’re done!

Easy to use. Couch is 17 yrs old with lots of scratches from dogs. Because this was such a drastic color change, some New scratches show the original color. But these have been easily touched up. Also did an old ottoman and office chair. This was done with 2 16 ounce bottles. I still have half a bottle left for touch ups.

Vinyl boat upholstery

Our vinyl boat upholstery was stained black. With just 2 easy coats we used the beige and covered all of pontoon vinyl seats. A little of this product goes a long way. It looks beautiful!
